Mumbai, Aug 19 (NationPress) The passengers trapped inside the Mumbai Monorail close to the Mysore Colony station, situated between Chembur and Bhakti Park, are currently being rescued by the dedicated Mumbai fire brigade due to a power supply malfunction.
According to a representative from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), approximately 200 passengers are undergoing rescue efforts.
The BMC reported that the monorail service between Chembur and Bhakti Park was disrupted by a technical issue around 6:15 p.m. Passengers aboard the monorail reached out to the BMC helpline at 1916 for urgent assistance amid this crisis. In response, the Mumbai Fire Brigade acted swiftly, deploying three snorkel (ladder) vehicles to commence rescue operations. Under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani, these operations have been accelerated. Additionally, a municipal medical team, along with ambulances, has been dispatched to the location. Nearby municipal hospitals have been advised to stay ready. The BMC also mentioned, “Four to five BEST buses have been arranged to assist passengers.”
Earlier, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on X, “Due to a technical issue, a monorail is halted between Chembur and Bhakti Park. All relevant agencies including the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the fire brigade, and the BMC are on-site. The utmost priority is ensuring the safety of all passengers, so there’s no need for concern or panic. Everyone will be safely evacuated. I urge everyone to remain calm. I’m in communication with the MMRDA Commissioner, the Municipal Commissioner, the police, and other relevant entities. An investigation will also be launched into the cause of this incident.”
Furthermore, the MMRDA stated that a monorail train near the Mysore Colony station has encountered a minor power supply issue. “Our operations and maintenance teams are already on-site working to resolve it promptly. Currently, services between Wadala and Chembur are smoothly functioning on a single line. We sincerely appreciate your patience and assure you that your safety remains our highest priority. Normal services will be reinstated as soon as possible,” they added.
