New Delhi, Nov 21 (NationPress) In a significant development, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has successfully solved a long-standing double murder case by apprehending two fugitives who had evaded capture since the horrific murders of a woman and her two-year-old daughter in Sarita Vihar back in 2002, as announced by the police on Friday.
The suspects—one a Proclaimed Offender for 23 years and the other a convicted murderer who had escaped parole 18 years ago—have finally faced justice.
The individuals arrested are Amalesh Kumar, hailing from Shivhar district in Bihar, and Sushil Kumar, who was previously sentenced to death by the trial court, a punishment later commuted to life imprisonment by the Delhi High Court.
Amalesh, who disappeared shortly after the brutal acts on January 28, 2002, has managed to elude authorities for more than two decades.
Declared a Proclaimed Offender, he was located in Jamnagar, Gujarat, where he was working under a false name. Crime Branch teams tracked him down using a combination of technical analysis and ground intelligence, finally breaking a case that had gone cold for years.
“His capture sends a clear message that the law will eventually reach every perpetrator, regardless of how well they hide,” stated the police in their press release.
Sushil Kumar, convicted for the murders and who escaped parole in 2007, was arrested from Lalgarh village near the Indo-Nepal border. Authorities reported that he had traveled across Karnataka, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, frequently changing locations to avoid arrest.
The case dates back to January 2002 when complainant Anil Kumar returned to find his home in Madanpur Khadar ransacked, with the bodies of his 22-year-old wife, Anita, and their two-year-old daughter, Megha, discovered in the kitchen, both with multiple stab wounds.
The investigation revealed that the motive for the crime was rooted in business rivalry, as both suspects were envious of the complainant’s successful tailoring business.
“He confessed that he, along with his associate Amalesh Kumar, committed the murders using a knife. The motive stemmed from business jealousy, as Anil Kumar was receiving more clients than he was,” the police reported.
“Upon thorough interrogation, both suspects admitted their roles in the murder case. They have since been charged under the relevant legal provisions,” remarked DCP Pankaj Kumar.
