New Delhi, March 12 (NationPress) A total of 2.69 crore houses have been finalized by the conclusion of FY 2023-24 under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G), which has set a target to build 2.95 crore pucca houses equipped with essential amenities by March 31, 2024. For this purpose, the Centre allocated Rs 2.26 lakh crore to the states, as per the information presented in the Lok Sabha.

The Union Cabinet has endorsed the plan for the "implementation of the PMAY-G during FY 2024-25 to 2028-29" aiming for the construction of an additional two crore rural houses along with the pending houses from the previous target of 2.95 crore by March 2025, as stated by the Minister of State for Rural Development, Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, in a written reply in the Lower House.

According to the PMAY-G scheme, states and union territories are required to guarantee that landless beneficiaries receive land from government sources or other types of land, including public land such as Panchayat common land, community land, or land belonging to local authorities.

For the designated land, sufficient infrastructure must be ensured by the states, which includes electricity, road connectivity, and the availability of drinking water, as well as solid and liquid waste management facilities. The responsibility for land is a state matter, and the Ministry does not intervene in land acquisition issues, the Minister explained.

The Ministry has been proactively engaging with the states/UTs to facilitate land provision for the remaining landless beneficiaries.

The Centre has been issuing guidelines within the framework of the PMAY-G for states and UTs to allocate land for landless beneficiaries. Additionally, regular reviews and follow-up meetings with states are conducted, he added.

A module has been created on the AwaasSoft-MIS of PMAY-G to monitor details of landless beneficiaries regularly.

Under PMAY-G, there are no restrictions on constructing more than one-storey houses for multiple PMAY-G beneficiaries together to address the issue of landlessness, the Minister further elaborated.
