New Delhi, June 22 (NationPress) The Indian government is actively repatriating its nationals, including students who are currently stranded in the conflict-ridden Iran, through Operation Sindhu. The most recent group of 311 Indians has safely landed in the national capital after a special flight from Mashhad, amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East following the bombing of significant Iranian nuclear installations by U.S. bombers.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Randhir Jaiswal, provided an update via X on Sunday regarding India’s ongoing evacuation efforts from Iran under Operation Sindhu, detailing the precise number of individuals evacuated from the war-affected area.
“Operation Sindhu continues. 311 Indian nationals arrived in New Delhi on a special flight from Mashhad at 16:30 hrs on 22nd June. A total of 1428 Indian nationals have been successfully evacuated from Iran,” tweeted Randhir Jaiswal, official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs.
A significant number of the evacuees are students from Kashmir. The J&K Students Association expressed gratitude to the government for its ongoing efforts to facilitate the evacuation from the conflict-stricken area.
“The Mahan Air flight (W50071A) from Mashhad, Iran, carrying over 280 Indian students, including more than 200 from Kashmir, has successfully arrived in Delhi. This is a moment of immense relief for families who have been anxiously waiting,” stated the J&K Students Association on X.
They further remarked, “We extend our thanks to the Ministry of External Affairs, government officials, and all personnel involved in this operation for their prompt action, coordinated efforts, and support in ensuring the safe return of our students from Mashhad, Iran. Your dedication has brought our students back home.”
In the meantime, the Indian government is also working on evacuating Nepalese and Sri Lankan nationals from the Gulf region, impacted by the strikes from Israeli and U.S. forces.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran announced on Saturday that citizens from Sri Lanka and Nepal would be evacuated by the Government of India, following requests from their respective governments.
