Bhubaneswar, March 10 (NationPress) The state government has identified a total of 3738 Bangladeshi infiltrators residing in various districts of Odisha, according to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi during an Assembly session on Monday.

Responding to a query from BJP MLA Manas Kumar Dutta, CM Majhi stated that these infiltrators are scattered throughout the coastal state.

Among them, 1649 are located in Kendrapara, 1112 in Jagatsinghpur, 655 in Malkangiri, 106 in Nabarangpur, 199 in Bhadrak, and 17 in Bhubaneswar.

The Chief Minister informed the Assembly that the state government has instructed all District Collectors and Superintendents of Police to initiate deportation proceedings for these Bangladeshi infiltrators after their identification by forming a committee with officials from the Tehsil, block, and Police departments in each district.

Additionally, CM Majhi revealed that there have been 41 criminal cases registered against Bangladeshi nationals in various parts of Odisha over the last decade, including five cases in the Balasore district.

On another note, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Monday attributed the continuous influx of Bangladeshi nationals into Odisha and other states to the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government.

Pujari claimed to the media that the West Bengal border with Bangladesh has become a prime route for the infiltration of Bangladeshis into India and the illegal transportation of cattle from India to Bangladesh.

It’s important to note that West Bengal shares the longest border with Bangladesh, measuring 2,216 kilometers. Furthermore, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch apprehended ten illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators, including three women and one minor, during a raid at the Bhubaneswar Railway Station this past Saturday.

According to the STF, during questioning, these individuals revealed their Bangladeshi origins and admitted to crossing the border illegally through an agent near the Dhubri border (Assam) before arriving in Bhubaneswar to settle. The search recovered seven mobile phones, along with both Bangladeshi and Indian currency notes, which were confiscated.
