Srinagar, Jan 17 (NationPress) The Jammu and Kashmir Police announced on Saturday that they seized 4 kg of charas (marijuana) during two distinct operations in Budgam district, resulting in the arrest of three drug traffickers.
A police report stated, "Today, Budgam Police apprehended three individuals involved in drug trafficking through operations executed in the Magam and Hardpanzoo regions, which led to the recovery of a significant amount of illicit substances."
In the initial operation, a police unit from Police Station Magam detained a suspect while conducting routine patrols at Batpora Crossing. The suspect was acting suspiciously, carrying a nylon bag, and attempted to escape upon noticing the police. He was skillfully caught, and a search revealed approximately two kilograms and 100 grams of a charas-like substance in his possession.
The individual has been identified as Rouf Ahmed Hajam, son of Mohammad Ramzan Hajam, and a resident of Batpora, Kanihama.
An FIR No. 05 of 2026 was registered at Police Station Magam under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigations are ongoing.
In a separate operation, a police team from Police Post Hardpanzoo set up a checkpoint at Bonizanigam village.
During the inspection, two individuals carrying a nylon bag were observed behaving suspiciously and attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended.
The arrested were identified as Irfan Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Yousuf Mir, and Owais Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, both residents of Hardulatina village.
Police recovered about two kilograms and 185 grams of the charas-like substance from them.
An FIR under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Beerwah, and investigations have commenced, the statement added.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces are actively conducting operations against drug traffickers and those involved in hawala money networks and other illegal activities.
It is suspected that the revenues generated from these illicit activities contribute to financing terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
