Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 1 (NationPress) Following significant airspace closures in Iran and various Middle Eastern nations, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has announced that 444 flights are anticipated to be cancelled on March 1.
On February 28, as a result of the airspace restrictions, 410 flights operated by domestic airlines were cancelled.
In a statement released on X, the DGCA confirmed that major airports are on high alert to manage possible diversions and ensure that passengers are smoothly facilitated.
“We are closely monitoring passenger assistance, coordinating with airlines, and managing terminal crowd control, with senior officials positioned on-site,” the aviation authority stated.
The DGCA also mentioned that the Ministry's Passenger Assistance Control Room (PACR) is actively addressing passenger inquiries and facilitating swift resolutions.
On February 28, the AirSewa platform recorded 216 grievances, successfully resolving 105 of them, thereby providing essential support to affected travelers.
The DGCA is working closely with airlines to ensure adherence to safety and operational protocols.
All parties involved are collaborating to guarantee that affected passengers receive orderly treatment and timely assistance.
Previously, the Ministry of Civil Aviation instructed all Indian airlines offering international services to consistently monitor airspace advisories, Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), and route restrictions from relevant authorities to safeguard passenger safety in light of the extensive military operations initiated by the US and Israel against Iran.
“In response to the airspace limitations imposed in the Middle East, airlines have been instructed to ensure prompt rerouting or diversion of flights as necessary, strictly in line with global safety protocols and established contingency planning procedures,” the Civil Aviation Ministry stated.
“The safety of passengers and crew is our top priority. The Ministry of Civil Aviation is vigilantly tracking the situation to ensure safe, orderly, and efficient air operations. We will provide further updates as needed,” the statement added.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and private airport operators have been advised to enhance coordination with airlines regarding ground handling, parking facilities, passenger services, crew logistics, and immigration assistance as required.
