Agartala, Nov 26 (NationPress) The Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram, announced on Wednesday that by the year 2026, a total of 728 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) will be established across India to enhance the standard of education.
Currently, 440 EMRS are operational.
During an event at the Eklavya Model Residential School in Kumarghat, located in Tripura’s Unakoti district, the Minister encouraged students to participate actively in sports and physical fitness activities.
The Tribal Affairs Ministry is funding the new EMRS initiative through the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), which was established in 2019 to oversee the implementation of the EMRS scheme.
A senior official reported that the Centre has approved 145 EMRS in eight northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh (10), Assam (15), Manipur (21), Meghalaya (35), Mizoram (17), Nagaland (22), Sikkim (4), and Tripura (21). Out of these, only 28 are currently operational.
In observance of Constitution Day on Wednesday, the Union Minister, alongside other dignitaries, recited the Preamble of the Constitution at the Eklavya Model Residential School in Kumarghat.
He also toured various classrooms, laboratories, and computer facilities within the school, engaging with both students and teachers.
Earlier, Oram inspected a canal built under the MGNREGA project at Kaulikura village in the Gournagar block of Unakoti district and visited the renowned archaeological site and Shaiva pilgrimage destination, Unakoti.
In a post on X, the Union Minister remarked: "In Kailashahar, Unakoti, where faith intertwines with history. The tranquil hills, the intricate rock engravings, and the spiritual essence evoke profound devotion. I prayed for peace, prosperity, and collective advancement."
"Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and as part of the 'Purvottar Sampark Setu', I visited the Unakoti district of Tripura on Wednesday and led a review meeting concerning the 'Centrally Sponsored Schemes' being executed in the state," he stated.
Oram commended the efforts of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, noting that the state government is making significant strides in ensuring the effective execution of the Central government’s initiatives and delivering their advantages to every citizen.
Accompanying the Union Minister were Tripura Youth Affairs, Sports and Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, BJP MLA Bhagaban Chandra Das, and several other officials.
