Eighth Central Pay Commission Calls for Stakeholder Input
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 6 (NationPress) The Eighth Central Pay Commission has opened its doors for submissions from various stakeholders, with a deadline set for April 30, 2026, as stated in an official announcement.
The Commission has launched an online structured format specifically for collecting memorandums and representations from employee associations, unions, pensioners, organizations, and concerned individuals via its official website.
According to the Finance Ministry, "The structured submission format is also accessible on the MyGov.in portal (innovateindia.mygov.in)."
"Stakeholders are encouraged to submit their input exclusively through this portal. Submissions in paper format, emails, or PDFs will not be acknowledged by the Commission," it added.
With over 1.1 crore central government employees and pensioners awaiting news of the 8th Pay Commission's rollout, there’s growing anticipation.
However, the comprehensive implementation of salary and pension increases in FY27 seems improbable.
The panel is tasked with delivering its report within an 18-month timeframe, making it less likely that salary and pension adjustments will be introduced in FY27. In light of this, the Commission may hasten its discussions with key stakeholders and aim to present its findings well ahead of the May 2027 deadline, according to previous reports.
Normally, the dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) are set to zero when a new pay commission's recommendations take effect, only to be gradually reinstated later.
Following the last adjustment in October, the current DA and DR rate is 58 percent. The fiscal impact from the 7th Pay Commission was approximately Rs 1.02 lakh crore, although the actual increase for employees was reduced after adjusting for DA/DR. In contrast, the fiscal impact of the 8th Pay Commission could be significantly higher, estimated between Rs 2.4 lakh crore and Rs 3.2 lakh crore, attributed to a larger workforce and increased number of pensioners.
