New Delhi, April 7 (NationPress) A significant number of central government employees and pensioners are eagerly anticipating the results from the drafting committee of the National Council (Joint Consultative Machinery) on April 13, which will provide insights regarding the 8th Pay Commission salary revision, according to a report released on Tuesday.

The drafting committee will convene at 11:00 am at the JP Choubey Memorial Library (located within the AIRF office) to assess a comprehensive common memorandum and deliberate on crucial matters including pay scale adjustments, annual increments, allowances, and additional benefits, as reported by NDTV Profit.

“This meeting on April 13 is part of the ongoing discussions that began on March 12, 2026, when all drafting committee members for the 8th Pay Commission gathered to review the common memorandum from various employee and pensioner groups,” stated NC-JCM secretary, Shiv Gopal Mishra, in his correspondence to committee members.

As of now, the government has not officially confirmed the date for implementing the salary increase. The calculation of arrears will depend on when the 8th Pay Commission's recommendations are set to take effect, with employee and pensioner organizations advocating for arrears to be calculated from January 1, 2026, the report conveyed.

The Federation of National Postal Organisations has urged the government to integrate the 58% dearness allowance into the basic pay and provide interim relief effective from the same date.

The anticipated salary hike will predominantly rely on the fitment factor adopted by the government, which analysts predict will surpass 2.5. Some employee groups have requested a fitment factor of 3.15, though an official announcement may take more than a year, according to the report.

Pankaj Chaudhary, Minister of State for Finance, informed Parliament in March that the 8th Pay Commission will present its recommendations regarding salaries, allowances, pensions, and other benefits for central government employees. The 8th Pay Commission is expected to finalize its work within 18 months from November 2025.
