Gandhinagar, March 16 (NationPress) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially declared its intention to run for all 12,000 seats in the forthcoming local self-governance elections in Gujarat.
The party’s Gujarat president, Isudan Gadhvi, announced that the initial list of candidates will be revealed following a thorough three-day screening process that is presently in progress.
Gadhvi emphasized that the party aims to nominate candidates in every available seat across municipalities, taluka panchayats, district panchayats, and municipal corporations throughout the state.
“In the forthcoming local self-governance elections, the Aam Aadmi Party has committed to contesting all 12,000 seats,” he stated.
For the candidate selection process, Gujarat has been segmented into seven zones, with zonal election committees established in each region. These committees consist of a zone president, central zone president, observers, and assembly in-charges who are responsible for assessing potential candidates.
Interviews for aspirants from constituencies within the state’s 26 Lok Sabha segments took place from March 10 to 15.
Post-interview, candidates are being classified into A, B, and C grades as part of the evaluation and screening process.
“The state election committee will review the names submitted from various zones over three days—March 16, 17, and 18. The first list of candidates will be announced soon after the screening process,” he noted.
He added that the party has received applications from a diverse group of individuals, including social workers, political figures, and party supporters.
Gadhvi mentioned that the party has embraced an “open to all” philosophy in its candidate selection, asserting that tickets will be awarded to ordinary citizens.
The party also highlighted the recent by-election in the Umreth Assembly constituency, which became vacant following the passing of sitting MLA Govind Parmar.
Gadhvi remarked that the party would finalize its strategy for the bypoll after discussions with both state and national leadership.
“In the elections announced yesterday across five states, the by-election for the Umreth Assembly constituency has also been revealed. We will consult with the state and national leadership before making a final decision,” he concluded.
