Will AAP Stand Firm Against 'Pressure Tactics' Following the Arrest of Gujarat MLA?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad, July 6 (NationPress) Gopal Rai, the in-charge of AAP's Gujarat unit, has vocally condemned the arrest of party MLA Chaitar Vasava related to an assault case. Vasava, representing Dediapada, was apprehended by the Narmada Police on Saturday night.
Rai, a former minister in Delhi, criticized the treatment of Vasava, claiming that even his lawyer, Gopal Italia, was barred from attending the hearing.
Rai accused the BJP of being rattled following their defeat in the Visavadar by-elections, asserting that Vasava's arrest exemplifies their desperation.
He stated, 'The BJP, shaken by their significant loss, resorts to such tactics, but Vasava will not yield to any pressure.'
Commenting on AAP's success in the Visavadar polls, he noted that despite the BJP's extensive efforts to manipulate the situation, they ultimately faced a setback.
Rai criticized the government, declaring, 'All pillars of democracy are under threat. Citizens are concerned about media restrictions, judicial influence, misuse of central agencies, and Operation Lotus.'
He pointed out that Vasava was arrested for exposing 'corruption' in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
Following Vasava's arrest, tensions escalated as his supporters congregated in large numbers outside the LCB office in Rajpipla, where he was taken after his arrest.
To manage the unrest, Section 144 was imposed in Dediapada to prevent unlawful gatherings.
Vasava drew attention during the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections when he triumphed over the BJP candidate, marking AAP's entry into the tribal regions of the state.
