This wave's first Covid case in Manipur was confirmed on June 9, involving a 23-year-old woman from Bishnupur district, as stated by the state's Health Services Director Chambo Gonmei.
Gonmei urged the public to remain vigilant due to the infection's spread in other areas of the country.
In the meantime, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla convened a Covid-19 review meeting at Raj Bhavan, emphasizing the need for proactive measures, sufficient medical infrastructure, and community awareness to prepare the state for any potential increase in cases.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, senior medical officials from the Health Department, and other authorities.
This review was prompted by recent directives from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, focusing on enhanced readiness amid rising fears of a possible Covid-19 resurgence.
A Raj Bhavan official reported that health officials updated the Governor on the state’s readiness, covering diagnostics, protective gear, oxygen supply, ICU and isolation wards, essential medications, and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme-Integrated Health Information Platform portal.
