Kolkata, Sep 11 (NationPress) Humayun Kabir, a member of the Trinamool Congress representing the Debra Assembly constituency in West Midnapore district, West Bengal, and a former IPS officer, finds himself embroiled in yet another controversy due to a recent social media post. This time, his comments indirectly suggested a comparison between the current situation in Nepal and India.
Initially, Kabir's post, written in Bengali, posed a provocative question regarding when a mass uprising similar to that of the Himalayan nation would occur in India, hinting at the downfall of what he termed “dictators” here.
His controversial message read, "When will our country’s dictators face the same fate? The corrupt will be exposed through peaceful means! When? When? Do you share my dreams?" This post triggered a wave of criticism, with many questioning how an elected official could make such statements. Additionally, the Trinamool Congress sent messages to Kabir, indicating that his comments were contrary to party views, especially since West Bengal Chief Minister had avoided making remarks on the situation in Nepal, emphasizing that it was a matter of external affairs for the Union government to address.
In response to the backlash, Kabir attempted to clarify his statements in the comments of his post. He reiterated his belief in the need for an uprising in India but insisted it should be non-violent, contrasting it with the events in Nepal. He emphasized his commitment to peace and the law, stating, "I believe in a silent and non-violent uprising that will eradicate corruption, nepotism, and division among the populace. Honest and educated individuals will lead this movement," Kabir expressed.
This is not the first time Kabir has drawn attention for controversial actions. Earlier in July, a video surfaced showing him physically assaulting a senior government official in his office.
The assaulted individual was identified as Pralay Chakraborty, the assistant registrar at the West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS).
Moreover, earlier this year, Kabir faced scrutiny for visiting the grieving family of a minor girl killed in a bomb blast in Kaliganj, Nadia district, offering financial assistance to the victim’s mother.
The tragic incident involved the young girl, Tamanna Khatun, who was struck by fragments from crude bombs thrown during a victory procession celebrating the win of Trinamool Congress candidate Alifa Ahmed in the Kaliganj bypolls.
As a result of these incidents, Kabir received a show-cause notice from the Trinamool Congress.
