Ahmedabad, September 18 (NationPress) In a significant effort to enhance the city’s green landscape, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel participated in a large-scale planting initiative alongside officials from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) as part of the 'Mission Four Million Trees' project at a garden adjacent to Sabarmati Jail in the Ranip area.
The campaign aims to plant 14,000 saplings, including various Ayurvedic species, across an area of 4,300 square meters utilizing the Miyawaki technique.
Up to this point, the AMC has successfully planted over 4.08 million saplings throughout the city as part of this initiative. This has been accomplished through careful planning, geo-tagging of planting sites, and growth monitoring using LIDAR technology to assess survival rates.
The initiative has seen extensive community involvement, including the distribution of over 54,000 tulsi plants during the Shravan month and the planting of culturally significant trees such as peepal, kadam, and bilva on special occasions. On September 17, coinciding with the Prime Minister’s birthday, approximately 12,820 tulsi saplings were handed out at temples across all city wards.
Key attendees at the Ranip event included AMC Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani, Mayor Pratibhaben Jain, local MPs, MLAs, and community leaders, where Patel symbolically planted a 'Putrajiva' tree.
Educational institutions, religious groups, and residential societies have also engaged in this initiative, expressing their commitment to fostering a greener Gujarat.
According to AMC representatives, the 'Mission Four Million Trees' aims not only to enhance urban greenery but also to raise public awareness and promote accountability in tree conservation.
Planting locations are accessible on Google Maps, and advanced technologies ensure scientific oversight, positioning this campaign as one of the most data-driven urban greening efforts in the nation.
In addition, Gujarat is leading the way in India's transition to green energy, with a concentrated focus on solar, wind, and hybrid renewable projects.
The state is home to Asia's largest solar park in Charanka and India’s inaugural offshore wind energy project, alongside promoting rooftop solar in cities like Ahmedabad and Surat.
With more than 20 GW of renewable energy capacity established and plans to expand, Gujarat is aligning with India's 2070 net-zero targets, backed by investor-friendly policies, strategic advantages for wind power, and innovative projects like solar-wind hybrid parks, solidifying its status as a center for sustainable energy development.
