Chennai, Jan 4 (NationPress) The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has officially transitioned into election mode as it prepares for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The party has rolled out a comprehensive strategy for creating its manifesto and selecting candidates.
As per a statement from the party, a 10-member manifesto committee is set to embark on a statewide journey starting January 7, engaging with the public and various stakeholders.
This initiative, which will continue until January 20, aims to cover all five zones of Tamil Nadu, encompassing all 38 districts. This signifies the party's commitment to crafting a widely representative and regionally sensitive election manifesto.
The committee, led by senior leader Natham R. Viswanathan, features notable party members including C. Ponnaiyan, Pollachi V. Jayaraman, D. Jayakumar, C. Ve. Shanmugham, S. Semmalai, P. Valarmathi, O.S. Manian, R.B. Udhayakumar, and S.S. Vaigai Selvan.
The panel's inaugural meeting took place at the party headquarters earlier this week, where they finalized the framework and timeline for the statewide outreach initiative.
Throughout the tour, committee members are expected to engage with representatives from farmers' groups, business sectors, women's organizations, youth groups, professionals, and a variety of community sections to gather suggestions and policy recommendations.
Sources within the party indicated that these insights will form the foundation of the AIADMK's manifesto, aimed at establishing the party as a credible alternative to the ruling DMK.
Simultaneously, party leadership will start interviewing prospective candidates for tickets beginning January 9.
The AIADMK has received an overwhelming response, with 7,988 applications submitted by individuals seeking Assembly tickets. Additionally, 2,187 applications were reportedly filed by party officials advocating for AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami to contest from their respective constituencies.
In announcing the formation of the manifesto committee last week, Palaniswami stated that the panel would directly engage with the public to gain insights into grassroots concerns and aspirations before finalizing the party's vision document for the 2026 elections. He added that a detailed tour schedule would be released soon.
As the principal Opposition party in Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK's proactive approach to manifesto development and candidate evaluation signals a determined and organized strategy for the forthcoming Assembly elections.
