Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 29 (NationPress) The AIADMK has unveiled its conclusive list of candidates for the forthcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, affirming that the party will vie for 167 constituencies statewide.
This announcement finalizes the AIADMK's candidate selection process, which was conducted in three phases, previously revealing names for 150 constituencies in two prior lists.
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami presented the third and last list on Saturday, detailing candidates for the remaining 17 constituencies.
This final phase is particularly significant as it encompasses critical urban areas, especially in Chennai, where several high-stakes contests are anticipated.
Noteworthy candidates for 12 Chennai constituencies—excluding Royapuram—had not been revealed in earlier phases. The latest list completes the party’s lineup for the capital region.
Among the distinguished nominees are P. Valarmathi (Thousand Lights), Gokul Indira (Anna Nagar), Adhi Rajaram (Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni), R. Mano (Harbour/Royapuram), and V.N. Ravi (Virugambakkam).
Other candidates include Sathyanarayanan (T. Nagar), M.K. Ashok (Velachery), K.P. Kandan (Sholinganallur), R.S. Rajesh (R.K. Nagar), and S.R. Vijayakumar (Villivakkam).
In a notable alliance arrangement, the Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar (reserved) constituency has been allocated to the Tamil Maanila Bahujan Samaj Party. Porkodi Armstrong, spouse of the late Armstrong, will compete from this constituency on the AIADMK’s iconic “Two Leaves” symbol, showcasing collaboration within the alliance.
The list also features Abhishek Rengasamy as an Independent candidate supported by the AIADMK in Egmore, along with nominees in constituencies like Alandur, Kolathur, and Alangudi.
A significant highlight of this announcement is the upcoming high-stakes electoral battles against senior leaders of the ruling DMK.
In Kolathur, the AIADMK has nominated P. Chandan Krishnan to contest against Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, setting the stage for a highly anticipated showdown.
Meanwhile, in Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni, Adhi Rajaram will challenge Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.
Interestingly, Adhi Rajaram previously contested against M.K. Stalin in Kolathur during the 2021 Assembly elections, garnering 35,138 votes. He also faced Stalin in the 2006 elections in Thousand Lights, where he lost by a narrow margin of 2,468 votes.
With the final list now released, the AIADMK has indicated its preparedness for a vigorous electoral contest, especially in Chennai, where many constituencies are expected to experience tightly contested races between the Dravidian powerhouses.
