Mumbai, April 3 (NationPress) The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) national spokesperson Waris Pathan launched a vehement attack on the BJP, claiming that the ruling party's move to pass the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 represents a blatant assault on Muslims. He argued that this legislation is sowing discord between Hindus and Muslims.
Pathan pledged that AIMIM would persist in its constitutional opposition, including legal avenues if needed.
This criticism followed the presentation of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the Rajya Sabha by Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday, after it was passed in the Lok Sabha just a day prior with a vote of 288-232, following an extended debate.
In a statement to IANS, Pathan denounced the bill, stating: “The amendment is a direct assault on Muslims, an affront to democracy, and an attack on secularism. The government has shown complete disregard for the Constitution. We have consistently maintained that this bill is unconstitutional. Our Party president will soon elucidate why it violates Articles 14, 25, and 26, and the detrimental impact it will have on Muslims and the general populace. By endorsing this bill, the BJP is inciting division between Hindus and Muslims, aiming to fracture the nation under the guise of mosques and temples. Despite our protests, the BJP has displayed its authoritarian nature by pushing the bill through with its majority.
He reaffirmed that AIMIM’s opposition to the bill would remain strong.
"We will tirelessly protest against this unjust law. Our dissent will be vocal, we will take to the streets, and continue our constitutional protests. We will also seek judicial intervention until the Modi government retracts this unjust law. Our movement is robust and will not wane," he declared.
When asked about future actions, Pathan outlined AIMIM’s approach should the Waqf Bill pass in the Rajya Sabha. "Our forthcoming strategy will encompass dialogues among senior leaders. We will protest within legal frameworks and seek judicial scrutiny. We trust that the judiciary will identify the flaws in this bill and recognize that it is harmful to Muslims. This bill clearly demonstrates the BJP's disdain for Muslims. Their purported motto ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’ is meaningless. They are not introducing this law to foster unity; instead, they are advancing their own agenda. This law will benefit historical temples while providing no real advantages to mosques. Our protests will persist until the government acknowledges this injustice."
Pathan expressed his fierce opposition, stating: "If given the opportunity, I would dismantle this bill. Just as Mahatma Gandhi opposed legislation he found unjust, I would follow suit if I believed the government was inciting hatred and division in the nation. Today, the BJP is fracturing the country in the names of Hindus and Muslims, under the banners of mosques and temples. This bill represents not just an assault on our land but an effort to seize a trust of Allah, which encompasses our faith, our children’s future, and the core of our religion. It is an outright war against Muslims.
