New Delhi, Dec 22 (NationPress) On Monday, Air India announced that a flight destined for Mumbai returned to Delhi shortly after its departure because of a technical issue.
The aircraft landed without incident in Delhi, allowing both passengers and crew to disembark safely, as confirmed by an airline statement.
“The crew operating flight AI887 from Delhi to Mumbai on December 22 opted to return to Delhi shortly after take-off due to a technical issue in accordance with standard operating procedures. The aircraft landed safely at Delhi and the passengers and crew have disembarked. Air India deeply regrets the inconvenience caused by this unexpected situation,” stated an airline spokesperson.
The aircraft is currently undergoing necessary inspections, the spokesperson added.
“Our ground team in Delhi is offering immediate support to the passengers, and alternative arrangements are being made to ensure they reach their destination shortly. At Air India, the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew are our utmost priority,” the airline remarked.
In light of recent flight disruptions, Air India indicated earlier that it has enhanced preparations to reduce passenger inconvenience during the fog season, unveiling measures such as CAT III B crew rostering, deploying CAT III B-certified aircraft, ensuring airport readiness across the network, tech-enabled passenger assistance, and proactive communication.
CAT III B crew rostering and certified aircraft involve assigning specially trained flight crews and using aircraft capable of landing in low visibility conditions.
Additionally, Air India has launched its ‘Fog Care’ initiative to assist passengers facing delays or schedule changes due to uncontrollable circumstances, as per a company release.
Under this initiative, flights at risk of being affected by fog, based on meteorological forecasts, will be proactively identified, and passengers will be notified of any delays or schedule alterations, the company stated.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has designated the period from December 10, 2025, to February 10, 2026, as the official fog window for this season.
