New Delhi, March 5 (NationPress) Veteran Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar’s shocking revelations about former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s academic background have left the party in a state of embarrassment, leading to swift and strong responses from fellow party members.

Aiyar, during a recent interview, alleged that Rajiv Gandhi had failed twice in college but managed to ascend to the position of Prime Minister, raising questions about his qualifications for such a significant role.

His comments drew criticism from many Congress leaders, who labeled him as ‘mentally unstable’ and deemed him irrelevant to the party.

The video of his remarks was shared by BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya on X, accompanied by a biting remark: “Let the veil be stripped.”

Nana Patole, former Maharashtra Congress chief, criticized Aiyar for bringing up uncomfortable truths about the late Prime Minister and the father of Rahul Gandhi.

“He has lost his mental balance; he should seek medical advice,” Patole remarked in an interview.

Captain Ajay Yadav, a Congress leader in Haryana, also expressed disapproval, stating that Aiyar is no longer relevant within the party.

In an interview with IANS, he stated that Aiyar's opinions should not be taken seriously as he lacks influence in party matters.

Congress national spokesperson Charan Singh Sapra went so far as to label him a ‘sleeper cell of BJP’.

Aiyar mentioned in the viral interview: “When Rajiv Gandhi assumed the role of Prime Minister, I was taken aback. I thought he was just an airline pilot, and he had also failed twice—first at Cambridge and then at Imperial College, London. I wondered how a two-time failure could become the PM of the country?”

While sharing these uncomfortable revelations, he claimed to have studied alongside Rajiv Gandhi, thus being privy to such information.

Notably, Aiyar’s comments about Rajiv Gandhi have once again put him at odds with the party leadership. This isn’t the first time his remarks have caused embarrassment for the party, leading to subsequent damage-control efforts.
