New Delhi, Jan 28 (NationPress) Mallikarjun Kharge, the President of Congress and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, has called for a comprehensive investigation into the plane crash that tragically claimed the lives of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others.

Kharge, while speaking to the media in New Delhi, expressed the necessity for a thorough inquiry following West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's request for a probe led by a Supreme Court judge. He highlighted that the circumstances surrounding the incident appeared dubious.

“Almost all political figures undertake air travel for urgent responsibilities. Business leaders also frequently fly for corporate matters. However, plane incidents are increasingly reported from various regions. For instance, a significant plane crash occurred in Ahmedabad. This particular incident involved a smaller aircraft, and an investigation into how it transpired is essential. We will advocate for an inquiry,” Kharge stated.

Expressing condolences, Kharge remarked that the occurrence was profoundly tragic and labeled Ajit Pawar’s demise as untimely. “It is heartbreaking to witness a devoted leader lose his life in such a manner. His family is engulfed in mourning, and we stand in solidarity with them, hoping they find the strength to endure this irreplaceable loss,” he expressed.

Ajit Pawar, recognized as one of Maharashtra’s most influential politicians, lost his life along with four others in a fireball incident as the chartered plane, en route from Mumbai, crashed and ignited while attempting to land at Baramati Airport.

In response to the tragic passing of Ajit Pawar, the Maharashtra government has announced a three-day period of official mourning.

A state funeral is set to be held for the late veteran of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), who was known for his strong community ties and was regarded as a leader of the people.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis conveyed profound sorrow regarding the loss during a press briefing at his official residence, Varsha.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress president D.K. Shivakumar expressed his shock and dismay over Ajit Pawar’s passing, urging fellow politicians to exercise greater caution while traveling. “The demise of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister is truly shocking. I was taken aback upon hearing of his passing. As political representatives, we must prioritize our safety while traveling. Many leaders have met untimely ends this way,” Shivakumar stated while addressing reporters in Bengaluru.
