Jaipur, March 8 (NationPress) A significant uproar erupted in the Ajmer court on Friday due to the murder of senior lawyer Purushottam Jakhotiya, who was fatally attacked over a DJ-related altercation.

Angry lawyers forcibly evacuated both police and the public from the court area and closed down the shops within. In response to the escalating situation, officers from ten police stations were dispatched to restore order.

However, when Congress members, including former RTDC chairman Dharmendra Rathod, showed up at the protest site, the lawyers vehemently opposed their involvement, asserting, "We do not want politics in this matter. Please leave."

This incident transpired on March 2 at approximately 1:45 a.m. near Sanskar Garden on Budha Pushkar Road.

A group of 8-10 youths was playing loud DJ music near a liquor shop and dancing in the street. Senior advocate Purushottam Jakhotiya, who resided nearby, objected to the noise and requested them to cease. This resulted in a brutal assault by the intoxicated group, who struck him with sticks, inflicting severe head injuries.

He was promptly transported to JLN Hospital in Ajmer but succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Friday, March 7. Following a complaint filed by his nephew Ankush, police initiated a case against the DJ vehicle driver and unidentified assailants in a pickup truck. Lawyers organized a large protest and ceased work.

The Ajmer Bar Association has issued a call for a total boycott of court activities. They are demanding a government position for a member of Jakhotiya’s family and the immediate arrest of all suspects. Advocates are insisting on the establishment of a law that guarantees improved security for legal practitioners. They are also advocating for the closure of a liquor shop near Jakhotiya’s residence and a prohibition on unauthorized DJ events, especially in Pushkar, a spiritual town.

Advocate Yogendra Ojha expressed serious concerns about police negligence, questioning why officers did not respond when Jakhotiya called for assistance at 1:15 a.m. He highlighted that police only acted after 3 a.m., by which point Jakhotiya had already collapsed. "Had the police acted promptly, his life might have been saved," Ojha commented.

As a form of protest, lawyers were seen ejecting both civilians and police from the court premises. Shops within the court were closed. A substantial number of police officers were deployed in reaction to the turmoil. Lawyers engaged in altercations with the police and pushed them back.
