New Delhi, April 6 (NationPress) Aman Gupta, a renowned judge on the 'Shark Tank' reality show, actively participated in the ongoing discussion regarding India's 'vegan ice-cream' startups in contrast to the Chinese semiconductor and electronics sectors. He expressed his support for Union Minister Piyush Goyal's call for enhanced innovation and ideas within the Indian startup landscape.
Gupta, co-founder of boAt, highlighted that the Union Minister’s remarks were not criticisms of startup founders but a gentle push to strive for greater achievements.
In a post on X, Gupta emphasized that India is now the third-largest startup ecosystem globally and is rapidly emerging as the fastest-growing major economy.
“Using benchmarks from China, the US, or others isn’t a flaw. It’s a strategic move,” he remarked.
The heated discussion was sparked by the Commerce and Industry Minister’s opening address at the 'Start-up Mahakumbh', where he urged entrepreneurs and investors to reflect and prioritize value-driven ventures over more whimsical ideas like extravagant ice creams.
In a direct reference to the Shark Tank judge, he advised, “Aman Gupta, consider a different viewpoint in the Shark Tank.”
In response to Goyal’s comments, Gupta noted that it’s rare for government officials to encourage founders to dream bigger, asserting that the time has arrived for India to emerge as a global leader.
“I was present. I absorbed the entire speech. The Union Minister isn’t opposed to the founders. He has faith in us. His message was clear - India has made significant strides, but to take the lead globally… we must set our sights higher,” he stated.
“To attain the number one spot, we must delve deeply into AI, deep tech, climate, mobility, and infrastructure. We need LLMs and innovation frameworks that measure up to global standards. Achieving this requires embracing scientific risk, fostering patient capital, nurturing founder-policymaker collaboration, and establishing a long-term national vision,” he elaborated in his X post.
“What we’ve created is remarkable. However, what we can develop… is even more significant,” he concluded.
