Amit Shah Advocates for Technological Integration in Criminal Law Implementation

New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) - On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah underscored the necessity of incorporating technology in crime control and proposed a system that generates alerts at specified stages and timelines, starting from case registration to its resolution, to ensure rapid investigations.
While presiding over a review meeting regarding the implementation of three new criminal laws with the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), he highlighted the significance of utilizing biometric technology for the identification of unclaimed bodies.
The Union Home Minister pointed out the need for continuous engagement with senior police units in States/Union Territories to oversee the advancement of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) and the Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) to provide momentum to the project.
He urged the NCRB to establish a data-centric platform that would support Investigation Officers and other participants in the Criminal Justice System.
He commended the NCRB for its technical progress in implementing the New Criminal Laws and the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS).
The Union Minister also assessed the integration of CCTNS 2.0, NAFIS, Prisons, Courts, Prosecution, and Forensics with ICJS 2.0 on an all-India scale. The Union Home Secretary, Director NCRB, and several senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, NCRB, and NIC were present at the meeting.
During the meeting, he requested the NCRB to ensure the complete rollout of the new criminal laws within ICJS 2.0, emphasizing the use of applications such as eSakshya, Nyaya Shruti, eSign, and eSummons in every state/UT.
Elaborating on the necessity for alert generation from case registration to case resolution, he mentioned that notifications to investigation officers and senior officials based on predefined timelines would significantly accelerate the investigation process.
He stressed that a team from the Ministry of Home Affairs and NCRB should visit States/Union Territories to bolster the adoption of technical initiatives and provide assistance in every possible manner.
