Amit Shah and Jyotiraditya Scindia to Participate in NEC Meeting in Agartala Next Week: Tripura Chief Minister

Agartala, Dec 10 (NationPress) The Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will be joined by Governors and Chief Ministers from all eight northeastern states at the 72nd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) taking place in Agartala next week.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha stated, after assessing the preparations for the two-day event, that an official-level meeting is scheduled for December 20, followed by the main session on December 21 at Pragya Bhavan.
Chief Minister Saha confirmed that Union Minister Shah is expected to arrive in Agartala on December 20 for the NEC meeting the following day.
The significant NEC meeting will see participation from Governors, Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and senior officials from both the Centre and the eight northeastern states, as they will discuss the advancement of various ongoing and proposed development projects over the two days, according to CM Saha's statements to the media.
A review of the initiatives and strategies of the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) is slated for December 22.
A senior official revealed that both the Union Home Minister and ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) Chairman S. Somanath will be attending the NESAC meeting.
The Union Home Minister serves as the President of the NESAC Society, while the ISRO chief holds the position of Chairman of the NESAC Governing Council.
Utilizing satellite imagery and studies, the NESAC, located in Umiam, Meghalaya, has aided northeastern states in planning, executing, and monitoring a variety of projects spanning agriculture and various infrastructures.
The NEC plenary session was originally scheduled for August 31 and September 1 but was postponed due to the severe floods that impacted Tripura.
During the last NEC meeting held in Shillong, the Union Home Minister remarked that over its 50-year history, the NEC has accelerated development in the region by offering a policy-oriented platform to all states while facilitating solutions to their challenges.
He noted that in these five decades, more than 12,000 km of roads have been built, 700 MW power plants have been established, and numerous institutes of national prominence have been created under the guidance of the NEC.
Emphasizing the role and potential of the NEC within the Act East Policy, the Home Minister highlighted that the Modi government has made substantial strides in addressing issues related to law and order, insurgency, and border management in the region over recent years.
Headquartered in Shillong, Meghalaya, the NEC is a regional planning and statutory advisory body for the eight northeastern states, including Sikkim. It was established under the North Eastern Council Act, 1971, and officially came into existence on November 7, 1972.
