Jammu, Sep 1 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah has declared the formation of inter-ministerial central teams (IMCTs) to evaluate the destruction inflicted by the recent floods in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand.
The Union Home Minister arrived in Jammu on Sunday at 9:35 p.m., where he was welcomed by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, along with senior civil and police officials and prominent BJP leaders.
Also accompanying him were Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB) Tapan Deka, DG BSF Daljit Singh Chawdhary, and senior representatives from NHAI, IMD, along with several other security agencies.
Prior to his arrival, Shah announced the establishment of IMCTs for the assessment of damage due to rain, floods, cloudbursts, and landslides in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab.
The Home Minister will convene a high-level meeting with senior officials at Raj Bhawan at 11:30 a.m. to evaluate the damage incurred by floods and landslides on government infrastructure and civilian properties.
Officials noted that the Home Minister plans to conduct an aerial survey of various regions, including Katra and Kishtwar, where individuals, including pilgrims, have lost their lives, and infrastructure has been severely affected due to floods triggered by cloudbursts.
He will also assess the damage to fencing and border posts along the International Border with Pakistan.
The MHA has stated, "The Ministry of Home Affairs is in contact with senior officials from these states/UTs and has provided all necessary logistical support by deploying the required number of NDRF teams, Army personnel, and Air Force helicopters to assist in search, rescue, and restoration of essential services."
Furthermore, the MHA emphasized that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central government stands firmly alongside the states impacted by natural disasters to alleviate the hardships faced by the populace.
The IMCTs will carry out an immediate assessment of the situation and the relief efforts undertaken by the state/UT governments, the statement added.
Amit Shah is also anticipated to meet with some affected families and visit flood-stricken areas in Jammu.
