New Delhi, Jan 22 (NationPress) On Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah engaged in a conversation with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss the tragic train incident that transpired in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra.

Reports indicate that multiple passengers lost their lives and between 30 to 40 others were injured when travelers aboard the Pushpak Express jumped off the train due to rumors of a fire, only to be struck by the Karnataka Express passing on an adjacent track in Jalgaon.

In a message on X, Home Minister Shah expressed, “The train accident in Jalgaon, Maharashtra is deeply regrettable. I have spoken with Chief Minister Shri @Dev_Fadnavis to obtain details about the incident. The local administration is doing everything possible to assist the injured. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have perished and wish a swift recovery to the injured.”

President Droupadi Murmu also expressed sorrow over the loss of life in this train tragedy in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district.

President Murmu stated, “The report of numerous passenger fatalities in the railway accident in Jalgaon, Maharashtra is profoundly distressing. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the grieving families, and I pray for the swift recovery of all injured passengers.”

This unfortunate incident took place around 5 p.m. on the railway line connecting Mahiji and Pardhade stations in Maharashtra.

The Pushpak Express, traveling from Lucknow to Mumbai, had halted due to passengers activating the emergency chain. Simultaneously, the Karnataka Express, heading from Manmad to Bhusawal, was approaching on the parallel track.

According to eyewitness accounts, panic ensued when sparks were observed from the wheels of the Pushpak Express as it came to a stop near Paranda station. The rumor of a fire spread rapidly among the passengers, causing chaos. Several individuals jumped from the train and came into the path of the Karnataka Express.

Initial reports suggest that between 8 to 10 individuals lost their lives, while 30 to 40 others suffered injuries in this tragic event.

Jalgaon SP confirmed the casualties and injuries, stating, “Several passengers exited the train following fire rumors. Tragically, they were struck by the Karnataka Express approaching from the opposite direction.”

Railway officials, including the Divisional Railway Manager of Bhusawal, along with medical teams and local administration, have arrived at the scene to manage rescue and relief operations. Senior railway authorities and state government teams are collaborating to ensure medical care for the injured and to investigate the incident.
