New Delhi, Jan 18 (NationPress) In an effort to promote a zero-casualty strategy for disaster management, Home Minister Amit Shah is set to engage with senior officials from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, this Sunday.
HM Shah will serve as the Chief Guest during the 20th Foundation Day Celebrations of the NDRF in Vijayawada, as stated in an announcement.
During this event, HM Shah will also inaugurate and lay the groundwork for projects exceeding Rs 200 crore.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is now embracing a zero-casualty approach to disaster management, shifting from a relief-focused strategy. This initiative aims to ensure Zero Casualty in the face of disasters, as mentioned in the statement.
On Sunday, the Home Minister will inaugurate three significant centers, including the Southern Campus of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), the campus for the 10th Battalion of the NDRF, and the premises of the Regional Response Centre (RRC) in Supaul (9th Battalion).
An official highlighted that under PM Modi's Vision@2047, both NIDM and NDRF are making substantial contributions to fortifying India's disaster resilience and enhancing the disaster risk reduction framework nationwide. They play a vital role in human resource development, capacity building, training, research, documentation, and policy drafting.
HM Shah will also lay the foundation stone for a new ‘Integrated Indoor Shooting Range’ at the National Police Academy (NPA) in Hyderabad, designed to train IPS probationary officers in shooting skills.
This shooting range will span 50 meters with 10 lanes, enabling 10 individuals to practice simultaneously.
The range will function in any weather condition, fully automated, and equipped with advanced technology. Construction costs are estimated at Rs 27 crore.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology conforming to international standards, this range will be a distinctive facility among police organizations throughout the country.
The 10th Battalion of the NDRF has demonstrated exceptional commitment, efficiency, and professionalism in disaster management.
Since its establishment, this battalion has engaged in over 800 missions, saving more than 15,000 lives and rescuing over one lakh citizens to safety.
During the 2016 Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR), PM Modi introduced a 10-point agenda for disaster risk reduction, which continues to inform India's disaster management strategies.
In accordance with PM Modi's 10-point agenda, the Indian Universities and Institutions Network for Disaster Risk Reduction (IUINDRR-NIDM) was launched under the National Institute of Disaster Management.
This network aims to emphasize the importance of education, research, and training in cultivating disaster resilience and to create model curricula for incorporating disaster risk reduction (DRR) across various levels.
To cater to the needs of the southern region, the Central government established the Southern Campus of NIDM in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh, as part of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014.
This campus has been partially operational since May 2023, and within a short time, over 44 training programs have been conducted, training more than 2,130 stakeholders in different facets of disaster management.
