New Delhi, Nov 5 (NationPress) Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Wednesday that India and New Zealand are reassessing their perspectives and considering each other's sensitivities as they work towards finalizing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
“We are transcending traditional tariff discussions and exploring innovative avenues to enhance the India-New Zealand relationship through our FTA talks,” the minister mentioned in a post on X.
Goyal emphasized that both nations are demonstrating mutual respect for each other's sensitivities to forge a solution that benefits both countries, advancing their partnership to new heights.
The minister arrived in New Zealand for discussions regarding the proposed FTA on Wednesday.
“I am thrilled to be in New Zealand to assess the progress of our ongoing FTA negotiations. I am thankful to my esteemed counterpart, Todd McClay, for the gracious welcome. Together, we aspire to expedite the establishment of a comprehensive and mutually advantageous economic partnership,” Goyal shared on X.
He also plans to engage with industry leaders and investors “to identify new collaborative and investment opportunities between our nations.”
As per a ministry statement, the fourth round of India–New Zealand FTA negotiations commenced in Auckland on November 3, representing a significant step in enhancing the bilateral trade and economic dialogue between the two countries.
The discussions, ongoing in Auckland until November 7, signify a renewed commitment to crafting a balanced, comprehensive, and mutually beneficial agreement after extensive technical discussions, according to the ministry.
Goyal is set to engage in a series of high-level interactions aimed at reinforcing trade, investment, and innovation ties between India and New Zealand.
These interactions will include a focused discussion with key members of the New Zealand business community and the visiting Indian business delegation, fostering greater collaboration between the private sectors of both nations, the statement elaborated.
An India-New Zealand Business Forum is scheduled for the afternoon in Auckland, followed by an engagement event with members of the vibrant Indian diaspora.
According to the ministry, these engagements are anticipated to attract participation from industry leaders, chambers of commerce, and government representatives from New Zealand, reaffirming the growing momentum in bilateral relations and the shared vision for a stronger, future-oriented economic partnership.
