Veteran Kannada actor Ananth Nag has been selected for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2024, India's highest honour in cinema, with political leaders across Karnataka's party lines uniting on Wednesday, 16 September to celebrate the recognition as a moment of pride for the state. Chief Minister Shivakumar Leads the Tributes

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar described Ananth Nag as an outstanding artiste and a multi-faceted talent whose long and distinguished career had enriched both Kannada and Indian cinema. He said the award was a fitting recognition of Nag's artistic journey and his service to the craft.

Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, speaking from New Delhi, called the honour a matter of immense pride for Karnataka and drew a direct comparison with the legendary Dr Rajkumar, the only other Kannada cinema icon widely associated with the country's top film honour.

'After the legendary Dr Rajkumar, Ananth Nag has added another feather to the crown of Kannada,' Kumaraswamy said, describing Nag as synonymous with natural acting and a rare talent in Indian cinema. He expressed hope that the veteran would continue to contribute to Kannada cinema in the years ahead.

BJP's Vijayendra and Opposition's Ashoka Also Congratulate

State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra said Ananth Nag had brought life to every character he portrayed and left an indelible mark on Indian cinema over several decades of work. He called the Dadasaheb Phalke Award a true recognition of the actor's distinguished contribution.

'His acting, multi-faceted talent and contribution over several decades have left an indelible mark on Indian cinema, particularly Kannada cinema,' Vijayendra said.
