During the Cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the establishment of Polavaram and Markapuram districts was confirmed.
The administrative center for Polavaram district will be located in Rampachodavaram.
State Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad informed the media about the Cabinet’s decisions, revealing that changes were approved for 17 out of 26 districts.
A total of 25 adjustments were made across these districts, he added.
No modifications were made to the remaining nine districts: Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Visakhapatnam, Eluru, NTR, Krishna, Guntur, Palnadu, and Anantapur.
These adjustments were initiated following public requests after the gazette notification issued on November 27, 2005.
He emphasized that the reorganization was aimed at meeting the people's aspirations.
A final notification is set to be released shortly, with all modifications taking effect from December 31, 2025.
Emotional moments surfaced during the Cabinet discussions surrounding the contentious transfer of the Annamayya district headquarters from Rayachoti.
Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy, representing the Rayachoti Assembly constituency, was visibly moved when the Cabinet sanctioned the proposal to designate Madanapalle as the new headquarters for Annamayya district.
Chief Minister Naidu stepped in to console the Minister, elaborating on the technical and administrative hurdles of keeping Rayachoti as the district headquarters.
He noted that this reorganization was essential due to unavoidable circumstances and for the greater public benefit.
He reassured Minister Reddy that the state government would focus on addressing concerns regarding the town's future.
The Chief Minister also affirmed that the Rayachoti Assembly constituency would be developed into a significant district-level growth center.
As per the Cabinet's decisions, Rajampet will merge with Kadapa district, while Railway Koduru will join Tirupati district.
Gudur will be reverted from Tirupati district back to Nellore district.
Additionally, five new revenue divisions received Cabinet approval.
Following the bifurcation in 2014, Andhra Pradesh was left with only 13 districts. The prior YSRCP government increased this number to 26 in 2022.
The current government, led by the Telugu Desam Party, had pledged during the last election that districts would be reorganized and new revenue divisions established to rectify unscientific district formations implemented by the previous administration.
Chief Minister Naidu criticized the former government's district formation decisions, stating that they sparked regional disparities as they failed to consider the people's aspirations.
