Andhra to host 25,000-strong Yoga Day event on Krishna bypass road
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday announced that more than 25,000 people will take part in a mass yoga gathering on the Krishna River West bypass road in Amaravati on 21 June 2026 to mark International Yoga Day. The flagship event will anchor the state-wide Yoga Andhra 2026 campaign, scheduled from 7 to 20 June, with a target of engaging 1 crore people in yoga activities this year.
What the campaign covers
Each district headquarters will host its own yoga programme, with district-specific themes designed to bring in diverse groups — police personnel in NTR district and farmers in Konaseema district, among others. The government will also organise special sessions at 56 tourist destinations, including the Undavalli Caves and Srisailam, to push a yoga-tourism overlay.
What the Chief Minister said
Naidu described yoga as 'India's invaluable gift to the world' and one of the most effective responses to stress, anxiety and lifestyle disorders. ‘Yoga is a comprehensive wellness practice that promotes physical fitness, mental peace and spiritual growth,' he told reporters. He added that the government wants yoga embedded in schools and colleges so that 'healthy habits can be developed from an early age.'
Building on last year's numbers
The Chief Minister cited the 2025 edition, held in Visakhapatnam in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which he said earned two Guinness World Records, 21 World Book of Records entries and a Skoch award. According to the state, 2.44 crore people registered for Yoga Andhra 2025, certificates were issued to 1.91 crore participants, and activities were conducted at 1.33 lakh venues with 1.53 lakh trainers.
Budget and long-term targets
The state has earmarked ₹10 crore for Yoga Andhra 2026 across infrastructure, publicity and event management. Under the Swarna Andhra 2047 Vision, the government aims to train 10 lakh certified practitioners, expand the trainer network to 2.5 lakh instructors and bring 1 crore people into regular yoga practice. Wellness expert Dr Manthena Satyanarayana Raju is reportedly guiding the campaign, with over 168 instructional videos developed for outreach.
How citizens can join
Naidu launched the Yoga Andhra Portal at yogandhra.ap.gov.in as the central hub for registrations, schedules and instructional content. Residents can also access yoga material by sending a 'Hi' to WhatsApp number 81424 04888. The Chief Minister appealed to social media influencers, television channels and cable networks to support the awareness drive voluntarily, signalling that the push will continue beyond 21 June.
