Amaravati, April 22 (NationPress) The police in Andhra Pradesh have mandated a renewed investigation into the murder of a driver allegedly perpetrated by YSRCP MLC Ananta Uday Bhaskar in Kakinada.

Kakinada DSP Manish Devraj Patil, an IPS officer, is designated as the investigation lead.

Superintendent of Police G. Bindu Madhav has instructed Patil to prepare a report for the Director General of Police (DGP) within a two-month timeframe.

The SP has also indicated that the investigation officer should obtain court approval if necessary.

This action follows a request from former IPS officer A. B. Venkateswara Rao, who pressed for a comprehensive investigation into the incident during a recent meeting with the SP.

Venkateswara Rao, who faced suspension during the YSRCP administration, recently initiated a campaign named ‘Jagan never again’ to highlight alleged misconduct and injustices under Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's governance.

MLC Ananta Uday Bhaskar, also referred to as Ananta Babu, is accused of murdering his driver Veedhi Subrahmanyam, a Dalit, and disposing of his remains at his home in 2022.

Since the TDP coalition assumed control last year, there has been a renewed focus on re-investigating cases from the YSRCP era.

Recently, the government appointed attorney Muppalla Subba Rao as special counsel to aid in this investigation.

During a confrontation, Ananta Babu allegedly pushed Subrahmanyam, leading to his fatal fall on the night of May 19, 2022.

Furthermore, the MLC allegedly inflicted injuries on Subrahmanyam’s body to disguise the murder as a road accident. However, the driver’s family contested his account and filed a complaint with local authorities.

The MLC was subsequently arrested, and the YSRCP expelled him from the party.

According to police reports, Ananta Babu claimed Subrahmanyam was intoxicated and reprimanded him for his habits. This confrontation angered the driver, who retaliated. In a fit of rage, the MLC grabbed Subrahmanyam by the neck and pushed him, resulting in a severe head injury.

He stated that he provided water to Subrahmanyam, but shortly thereafter, the driver became unresponsive. The MLC then attempted to stage the incident as a road accident, transporting the body to a dumping site where he inflicted further injuries using sticks.

Finally, he brought the body back to Subrahmanyam’s residence, misleading the family into believing he had died in an accident. Upon seeing the injuries, they questioned his version, leading to a heated exchange before the MLC departed, leaving the body in his vehicle.

Ananta Babu was released on bail in December 2022.
