Amaravati, Jan 18 (NationPress) The YSR Congress Party has called for a thorough and unbiased investigation into the tragic murder of party activist Manda Salman in the Palnadu district of Andhra Pradesh.
The party plans to file a formal request with the Director General of Police, Harish Gupta, on Monday.
A delegation of YSRCP leaders is set to meet with the DGP regarding the murder of the Dalit activist from Pinnelli village in the Gurazala constituency.
The party has requested an urgent appointment in this matter. In a letter sent to the State DGP on Sunday, YSRCP State General Secretary and MLC Lella Appi Reddy emphasized that Salman, who had been living away from his hometown due to fear and had only returned to care for his ailing wife, was brutally beaten to death with iron rods, showcasing a complete breakdown of law and order in the state.
He pointed out that since the TDP-led coalition government took power, Dalits have been left vulnerable and YSRCP Dalit activists are constantly under threat.
The party intends to urge the DGP to expedite an impartial investigation into the incident and to take all necessary measures to ensure that the perpetrators are identified and punished under the law.
On Saturday, YSRCP supporters held statewide protests at Dr B.R. Ambedkar statues in all district headquarters, denouncing the horrific murder of Salman.
Following a call from party president and former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, party leaders and representatives from the SC Cell organized dharnas in multiple districts, including Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Palnadu (Narasaraopet), Kurnool, Tirupati (combined Chittoor), YSR Kadapa, and Anantapur.
They claimed that constitutional governance has deteriorated in Andhra Pradesh, leading to a rise in political killings and assaults on YSRCP members.
Leaders asserted that Salman's murder is a direct result of the prevailing 'Red Book rule', police collusion, and demanded immediate arrests, the suspension of responsible officers, and stringent action under the SC/ST Atrocities Act.
The 'Red Book' refers to a document carried by TDP leader and current minister Nara Lokesh during the 2024 election campaign, which he claimed contained the names of YSRCP leaders who had previously targeted TDP members during their five-year rule, along with officials who acted on YSRCP leaders' orders to target TDP.
Lokesh, the son of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, declared that all individuals named in the 'Red Book' would face consequences.
YSRCP accuses the TDP-led coalition government of engaging in vendetta politics by targeting all individuals mentioned in the 'Red Book'.
