Key Takeaways
Amaravati, Feb 4 (NationPress) The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has reached out to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India, requesting an investigation into the assaults on the residences of its leaders and the murder of a Dalit activist.
A group of YSRCP representatives visited the NHRC in New Delhi on Wednesday, asserting that there is a significant breakdown in law and order and extensive human rights violations occurring in Andhra Pradesh.
During the meeting, the leaders presented a formal complaint to NHRC Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian, outlining the attacks on former ministers Ambati Rambabu and Jogi Ramesh, as well as the homicide of a Dalit activist.
The delegation showcased videos and photographs of what they described as ‘coordinated attacks’ orchestrated by TDP cadres, and claimed that there were attempts to physically eliminate opposition leaders. They urged the NHRC to acknowledge the “anarchic governance” present in the state under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
YSRCP representatives reported that the NHRC Chairperson responded favorably, indicating that a report would be requested from the DGP, and a fact-finding team might visit the state.
The delegation included MPs Y.V. Subba Reddy, Mithun Reddy, Gurumoorthy, Golla Babu Rao, Meda Raghunath Reddy, Subhash Chandra Bose, Ayodhya Ramireddy, and Tanuja Rani, along with SC Cell president Sudhakar Babu and former ministers Merugu Nagarjuna and Adimulapu Suresh.
After the meeting, Jupudi Prabhakar Rao stated that they requested a comprehensive investigation into the attacks, expressing optimism that an NHRC probe team would soon visit Andhra Pradesh.
Merugu Nagarjuna mentioned that assaults on Dalits have escalated, including attempts of petrol bomb attacks on former ministers. Adimulapu Suresh argued that the constitutional framework has weakened in the state, and police have remained passive during assaults on YSRCP supporters.
MLC Israel and MLA Chandrasekhar called for President’s Rule, reiterating a failure of citizen safety and the emergence of “goonda raj.” The brother of Dalit activist Salman also presented a plea for peace and protection in their village.
