Is Jogi Ramesh Facing Life Threats from Lokesh?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Vijayawada, Feb 2 (NationPress) Former minister and YSR Congress Party leader Jogi Ramesh alleged on Monday that both his life and the safety of his family are in jeopardy due to minister Nara Lokesh. He emphasized that the TDP leader must be held accountable should any harm befall them moving forward.
Ramesh claimed that the attack on his residence on Sunday was orchestrated on Lokesh's orders, under the guidance of MP Kesineni Chinni. He accused TDP supporters, allegedly with police collusion, of assaulting his home using petrol bombs in a conspiracy aimed at silencing him and instilling fear in his family.
While addressing the media at his home in Ibrahimpatnam, accompanied by fellow YSRCP leaders from the Krishna and NTR districts, Ramesh expressed his devotion to Lord Venkateswara and his leadership under Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, questioning whether he should remain silent in the face of false accusations against his leader.
He asserted that these assaults aim to stifle dissent against government shortcomings and to intimidate Backward Class (BC) leaders within YSRCP to prevent them from voicing their opinions. He alleged that numerous TDP workers were mobilized to target his residence, framing the incident as an attack on democracy and backward communities.
Ramesh lamented that despite providing evidence and identifying those responsible, no arrests were made while he himself faced legal actions. He further alleged that the police stood by during the attack instead of ensuring the safety of his family, which included his father, wife, and son, who were inside during the incident.
In a subsequent emergency meeting at YSRCP’s central office, convened by party president Jagan Mohan Reddy, senior leaders, including State Coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy and Legislative Council Opposition Leader Botsa Satyanarayana, discussed the purported murder attempt on former minister Ambati Rambabu and the attack on Ramesh’s household.
The leaders condemned the apparent disintegration of law and order, asserting that the state has descended into a “jungle raj” under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and vowed to escalate the government's perceived “misdeeds” to a national level.
They expressed concern over the suppression of opposition voices through intimidation and said such tactics would not dissuade YSRCP from intensifying its efforts. Additionally, they accused the government of offending the sentiments of Tirumala devotees with controversial remarks regarding laddu prasadam and demanded an apology from Naidu.
YSRCP leaders also claimed that multiple former ministers and MLAs had been targeted within just three days and criticized the inaction of police, which they believe has emboldened attackers.
They noted a deterioration in the police force's responsiveness, with officers failing to act despite repeated requests for protection, and in some instances, filing cases against victims instead. The party plans to escalate the issue to Delhi, approach the courts, and contact the National Human Rights Commission. Describing these events as unprecedented in recent political history, the leaders affirmed their commitment to both political and legal challenges, promising to raise public awareness and assert that attempts to silence opposition will ultimately fail.
