Why Was YSRCP Leader Jogi Ramesh Booked for Remarks Against CM Chandrababu Naidu?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Amaravati, Feb 2 (NationPress) The Andhra Pradesh Police have initiated legal proceedings against Jogi Ramesh, a former Minister and leader of the YSR Congress Party, for purportedly making objectionable comments concerning Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh, the Minister for IT and HRD.
Following a complaint lodged by a member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), officers filed a case at the Ibrahimpatnam Police Station in the NTR district on Monday.
Additionally, authorities have registered a separate case against TDP supporters who assaulted Jogi Ramesh's residence in Ibrahimpatnam on Sunday.
In response to a complaint from a police official, charges of public nuisance, illegal assembly, and assault on the residence were filed.
In protest of Jogi Ramesh's comments about TDP leaders, activists amassed outside his home, dismantled banners, invaded the property, vandalized it, and set furniture ablaze.
Leaders from YSRCP claimed that petrol bombs were deployed by the assailants.
At the time of the incident, Jogi Ramesh was not at his residence, returning late Sunday night.
The occurrence followed a previous attack by TDP activists on the home of another senior YSRCP leader, Ambati Rambabu.
These TDP activists were protesting against alleged disparaging remarks made by Rambabu regarding the Chief Minister.
A substantial group of TDP supporters gathered outside Rambabu's house on Saturday night, reportedly damaging the property and vehicles, even setting some ablaze.
YSRCP contended that there was an attempt on Rambabu's life, leading to his arrest for impeding police duties. Another case was also filed against him for criticizing the Chief Minister and allegedly inciting public disorder.
Police presented Rambabu before a magistrate on Sunday night, resulting in a 14-day remand to judicial custody, after which he was transferred to Rajahmundry Central Jail.
The attacks on former ministers have escalated political tensions. YSRCP has called for the imposition of President's Rule, citing a complete breakdown of law and order.
Former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who leads YSRCP, asserted that Chief Minister Naidu struggles to accept that central government laboratories like NDDB and NDRI have validated claims that the ghee used for making Tirupati laddu during YSRCP's tenure was adulterated with animal fat.
“The arson attacks on the residences of Ambati Rambabu and Jogi Ramesh are misguided attempts to instill fear. Remember, Chandrababu, you are igniting the flames of your own administration's downfall,” Jagan remarked on X.
“The burning of the homes of Rambabu and Ramesh signifies anarchy and barbaric rule. The flames you have started against democracy will ultimately consume your government,” he continued.
In response, CM Chandrababu Naidu countered that YSRCP's frustrations stem from their inability to recognize the government's success in stabilizing the state.
In a post on X, he asserted that the government would maintain law and order against any disruptive attempts and criticized YSRCP for its history of criminal politics, highlighted by the “illegal governance” from 2019-2024.
Naidu claimed that the criminalization of politics has been YSRCP's fundamental characteristic, and lawlessness marked their rule.
“We established the rule of law in 2024. Our principle is empowerment and service to the people. In opposition, they resort to desperation and abuse, as their failures are laid bare. They are discontent and frustrated to witness the restoration of what they once destroyed. However, the law is absolute, and we must uphold the order we have set. We will not permit anyone to breach the rule of law,” he concluded.
