Amaravati, Nov 2 (NationPress) YSR Congress Party President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed his disapproval on Sunday regarding the detention of party leader and ex-minister Jogi Ramesh linked to a spurious liquor case. He accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of attempting to evade responsibility following the exposure of his illicit liquor operations.
After the Special Investigation Team (SIT) apprehended Ramesh, Jagan Mohan Reddy asserted that Naidu, having been caught in the act with the illicit liquor factories, has resorted to a disgraceful conspiracy to unlawfully detain a leader from the backward classes within the YSRCP.
"This arrest is evidently illegal. I vehemently denounce the detention of Jogi Ramesh," stated the former CM.
Addressing Chandrababu Naidu, he remarked that Naidu has governed for the past 18 months, and the seized counterfeit liquor is from this timeframe. "Among those arrested, including an MLA candidate from your party, all have close connections to you, your son, your ministers, and your MLAs. The counterfeit liquor produced is exclusively sold through the private liquor outlets you initiated and via belt shops operated by your affiliates. Therefore, the production and sales are your responsibility, yet you smear our people and unlawfully arrest them," he claimed.
Jagan Mohan Reddy further alleged that to distract from the government’s shortcomings leading to the stampede at the Kasibugga temple and to overshadow the farmers’ distress from Cyclone Montha, the government resorted to illegal detentions, stooping to deplorable levels.
The former Chief Minister highlighted that Ramesh had filed a petition in the High Court seeking a CBI inquiry into the counterfeit liquor matter, and he was arrested the very next day. "This indicates your fear. If you and your associates are not implicated in the counterfeit liquor scandal, why fear a CBI probe?" he questioned Naidu.
"Your SIT is under your control. It will comply with your commands. If you say sit, it sits. If you say stand, it stands. Isn’t it absurd that you are directing an investigation into your own mafia operations? What can we expect from such a tyrannical regime?" he queried.
Senior YSRCP figures including Chelluboina Srinivasa Venugopalakrishna, Meruga Nagarjuna, Perni Nani, Ambati Rambabu, Kurasala Kannababu, Gadikota Srikanth Reddy, Margani Bharat, and TJR Sudhakar Babu also condemned the unlawful detention of former minister Ramesh, labeling it a blatant act of political vendetta and misuse of power by the coalition government.
They asserted that Ramesh has been unjustly implicated in the counterfeit liquor case solely to intimidate him and target the YSRCP. “The primary accused, already in custody, was coerced into framing Jogi Ramesh. This is not an investigation; this is political extortion,” their statement read.
They recalled that Ramesh publicly refuted these accusations and swore an oath before the Kanaka Durga Temple, yet TDP leaders have remained silent.
