Vijayawada, July 19 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed its approval regarding the detention of YSR Congress Party MP P. V. Midhun Reddy in connection with the liquor scam in Andhra Pradesh.
Sadineni Yamini Sharma, a member of the BJP National Council, stated that the BJP endorses the arrest of Rajampet MP Midhun Reddy.
“This action clearly underscores the importance and dedication of our government, particularly the police department,” she asserted.
She accused Midhun Reddy of being a key player in one of the largest liquor scams in the nation, where he allegedly manipulated excise regulations and adjusted the automatic order placement system for liquor.
“He also initiated policies that benefitted only select suppliers, from whom he allegedly received kickbacks and funneled money through shell companies,” noted Yamini, who serves as the spokesperson for Andhra Pradesh BJP.
She refuted the claims from YSRCP that this is merely a case of political vengeance.
“Our government is determined to see that all wrongdoers involved in the liquor scam, who have devastated the lives of countless innocent individuals, face justice. This is the constitution and the law in action. Soon, the remaining parties implicated in this scam, who are responsible for numerous fatalities, will be incarcerated. We eagerly await that moment,” she added.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) apprehended Midhun Reddy on Saturday following nearly seven hours of interrogation at their office.
Midhun Reddy has been designated as accused number four in the case filed last year after the TDP-led NDA assumed power in the state.
His arrest occurred just one day after the Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail application. Previously, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had also dismissed his plea.
The SIT reportedly uncovered widespread irregularities and financial misappropriation within the liquor policy implemented during 2019-24.
Midhun Reddy’s arrest coincided with the SIT's submission of a preliminary chargesheet in the case. The SIT officials presented a 300-page chargesheet to the ACB court, complete with forensic lab findings.
