Amaravati, June 22 (NationPress) The Andhra Pradesh Police have initiated legal actions against Ambati Rambabu, a prominent leader from the YSR Congress Party and a former minister, along with others for allegedly breaching police directives during the visit of party president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to Palnadu district on June 18.
Cases, known as First Information Reports (FIRs), were lodged against Rambabu and his associates at the Nallapadu and Old Guntur police stations.
During Jagan Mohan Reddy's journey to Rentapalla village in Palnadu district, where he offered condolences to the family of Korlakunta Nagamalleswara Rao—a YSRCP member who tragically took his own life due to alleged pressure from police and TDP leaders—certain restrictions were enforced by the police.
The visit was marked by a significant demonstration of strength from the opposition party, as thousands of supporters joined the convoy.
Regrettably, two fatalities occurred during the former chief minister's visit: a 53-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle in Jagan's procession in Guntur district, while another individual collapsed while awaiting his arrival in Sattenapalli and later passed away in a hospital.
Reports indicate that the YSRCP leaders violated the conditions set by the police regarding Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit.
On June 19, a YSRCP worker was detained for showcasing placards with incendiary slogans threatening violence against TDP leaders if the YSRCP regained power in 2029. A case was filed against him at the Nekarikally Police Station in Palnadu district following a complaint from TDP leaders. Ravi Teja was arrested and placed in judicial custody.
Earlier this month, Ambati Rambabu faced legal action after a confrontation with police regarding a denied rally in Guntur.
He and his associates were charged with assaulting police officers in an attempt to prevent them from performing their duties.
Rambabu reportedly acted aggressively towards police after they halted him and his supporters from advancing to the District Collectorate during a rally aimed at delivering a memorandum.
On June 4, he had a tense exchange with police during a protest labeled ‘Betrayal Day’ by the party throughout Andhra Pradesh.
A charge was filed against Rambabu and others under section 353 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertains to assault or using criminal force to deter a public servant from carrying out their duties, at the Pattabhipuram Police Station.
