Jabalpur, Nov 15 (NationPress) On Saturday, Madhya Pradesh's Chief Minister Mohan Yadav presented a cheque worth Rs 1 crore to Kranti Gaud, a member of the Indian women's cricket team, which recently achieved its first World Cup victory for the nation earlier this month in Mumbai.
The Chief Minister had promised this financial support to Kranti during a meeting at his Bhopal office last week. It was agreed that the cheque would be awarded to her during the Janjatiya Gaurv Divas events.
Additionally, CM Yadav announced plans for the construction of a cricket stadium in Chhatarpur and pledged to look into her father's ongoing suspension from the Madhya Pradesh police.
Kranti's father, Munna Singh Gaud, a police constable, has faced suspension since 2011-12 over alleged negligence during election responsibilities.
Kranti Gaud, who hails from the Tribal community in Chhatarpur district, received this recognition on the 150th birth anniversary of the notable freedom fighter and Tribal icon Birsa Munda, an occasion celebrated nationwide on Saturday.
On November 2, at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Kranti played a crucial role in helping India secure a victory against South Africa by 52 runs, defending a target of 299 to clinch the inaugural ICC Women’s ODI World Cup.
Throughout the tournament, Kranti took nine wickets across eight matches at an average of 40.11, concluding with a Player-of-the-Match performance of three wickets against Pakistan, firmly establishing her legacy in cricket history.
Before launching the state-level Tribal Pride Day event in Jabalpur, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav addressed a similar gathering in Alirajpur, a district known for its tribal population, where he honored the legacy of Birsa Munda and other Tribal heroes.
During his address at Alirajpur, the Chief Minister also paid tribute to the revolutionary freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad, born in Alirajpur in 1906.
