Amaravati, July 31 (NationPress) The former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and president of the YSR Congress Party, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, has claimed that the state is experiencing an undeclared "emergency-like situation".
Reddy criticized the coalition government for its draconian rule and accused it of fabricating cases against the opposition by misusing police resources. He warned that all individuals responsible for these actions will face consequences once the YSR Congress regains power.
Speaking to the press in Nellore on Thursday, he expressed solidarity with former MLA Prasanna Kumar Reddy, whose residence was reportedly attacked by members of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
The YSRCP leader charged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been systematically targeting the homes of political rivals, indicating a disregard for constitutional rights and democratic norms.
While political criticism is common, he noted that the recent trend of sending armed mobs to intimidate adversaries is troubling, especially as seen during the attack on Prasanna Kumar Reddy’s home, where his elderly mother was present.
The term ‘Red book’ refers to a diary shown by TDP leader Nara Lokesh in last year's election campaign, listing those who allegedly harassed TDP members during YSRCP governance.
Jagan Mohan Reddy mentioned that the extensive police presence and roadblocks to prevent public access to him highlight how fearful Chandrababu Naidu is of the YSRCP, as well as his attempts to distract the public from unfulfilled electoral promises.
After visiting party leader and former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy in Nellore jail, he remarked that Chandrababu is finding enjoyment in fabricating charges against opposition figures to keep them imprisoned.
He pointed out that cases have been filed without justification, including one concerning illegal quartz mining, despite a Village Revenue Officer's statement confirming no such activity has occurred in four years.
Reddy also criticized the charges against Govardhan Reddy, emphasizing the vindictive nature of the current administration, as Reddy remains incarcerated while others involved in the same case have secured anticipatory bail.
“The baseless cases against Kakani Govardhan Reddy reflect the declining law and order situation in the state. He has spent 64 days in jail facing 14 charges,” he stated.
Jagan highlighted several YSRCP leaders and their families who have been targeted by the coalition government, including Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy and Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy. He noted that PV Midhun Reddy is imprisoned due to a past conflict involving his father and Chandrababu Naidu during their university days. The animosity toward Chevireddy stems from his electoral victory in Chandrababu's hometown.
TDP leaders have resorted to derogatory remarks against RK Roja and Rajani, as well as physical assaults on ZP Chairperson Harika, prompting Jagan to question the future of democracy should retaliation occur.
