Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Amaravati, Feb 1 (NationPress) The YSR Congress Party has strongly condemned what it describes as a 'murder attempt' on former Minister Ambati Rambabu, calling for the Central Government's intervention regarding the escalating 'political violence' in Andhra Pradesh.
The main opposition party labeled the attack on its leader as a shocking violation of democracy and indicative of a disintegrating law and order situation in the state. They claim this incident signals an alarming trend of targeting dissenting voices and intimidating those who challenge the government.
YSRCP Parliamentary Party leader Y.V. Subba Reddy condemned what he characterized as a prolonged assault on Rambabu’s home by TDP supporters in Guntur, while police took no action.
He stated that upon the guidance of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the party would present the issue of the 'deteriorating situation' in Andhra Pradesh to the Central Government and the Union Home Ministry, seeking the restoration of law and order and safeguarding political leaders.
MP Gurumoorthy also condemned the attack and the murder attempt on Ambati Rambabu as a disgraceful act, representing the coalition government’s decline. He criticized the increasing “excesses” of the ruling alliance, arguing that constitutional governance has been replaced by arbitrary rule, with police complicit in enabling violence and clashes.
He announced that YSRCP would file complaints with the Central Government, in Parliament, and with relevant commissions. Warning that “times do not remain the same forever”, he expressed concern over the emergence of a dangerous culture where questioning leaders leads to attacks on their homes and a climate of fear.
He shared worries that the state is veering towards instability and mentioned that a complaint has already been sent to the Union Home Secretary, urging immediate intervention to uphold law and order in Andhra Pradesh.
YSRCP Youth Wing State President Jakkampudi Raja criticized the Naidu government for fostering a culture of political vendetta. He commented that the police force has been reduced to a “private army” and noted that attacks on YSRCP leaders escalated following clarifications that no animal fat was found in Tirupati laddu ghee.
He warned that the public would demand accountability from the government and called for the dismissal of the state government alongside the imposition of President’s Rule.
Former MLA Katasani Ramireddy labeled the attack on Rambabu as ‘inhuman’ and accused the coalition government of targeting YSRCP leaders to deflect attention from its own shortcomings. He criticized the police for failing to maintain peace and reiterated the demand for President’s Rule, warning that YSRCP would initiate large-scale protests if attacks on its leaders persist.
