Are the People of Andhra Pradesh Discontent with the Coalition Government? Jagan Speaks Out
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Amaravati, Jan 28 (NationPress) Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy stated on Wednesday that the citizens are increasingly frustrated with the coalition government, labeling it as ‘wicked, vindictive, and rife with corruption and inefficiency’. The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader announced plans for a mass outreach initiative that will cover all Assembly constituencies in order to restore faith among the populace.
While addressing party members from Bhimavaram at the party's headquarters, he criticized the coalition government's approaches and condemned the ‘wicked’ tactics employed by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who he claims is favoring his allies while persecuting political opponents.
Expressing that the public is weary of Naidu’s governance, Jagan assured that a potential Jagan 2.0 would prioritize the party's cadre, marking a significant change from previous policies.
“We supported citizens in various ways, aiding them throughout the COVID pandemic and honoring all our electoral commitments. In contrast, Chandrababu has failed to deliver on all his Super Six promises and has let down every demographic,” he remarked, juxtaposing the two administrations.
During his tenure, Jagan's administration took out loans amounting to approximately Rs 3.32 lakh crore, with Rs 2.73 lakh crore allocated under Direct Benefit Transfer for welfare initiatives. “Chandrababu's administration has amassed Rs 3 lakh crore in loans within a shorter period, yet there is a lack of accountability. Welfare programs have not been executed, leading to rampant corruption,” he asserted.
The former Chief Minister claimed that corruption is escalating from liquor to sand, with funds being misappropriated by members of the ruling party, who are taking their cut. He noted that belt shops are auctioned off, liquor is sold above the maximum retail price (MRP), and availability is constant.
“Despite an increase in sand sales, revenue has seen a decline, exemplifying corruption. The Sankranti festival was commercialized into a gambling event, losing its festive essence due to the leaders' and cadre's commissions and police involvement,” he stated.
Jagan Mohan Reddy pointed out that law and order is worsening in the state, citing issues involving coalition MLAs. For instance, Railway Kodur MLA threatened a female employee, and another woman attempted suicide due to harassment from Amadalavalasa MLA, while Satyavedu MLA allegedly raped a woman and misused his power to conceal the case.
He emphasized that students are suffering as all welfare programs have been halted, Aarogyasri services have been compromised, and farmers are facing distress due to the lack of Minimum Support Price (MSP) among other issues.
If the government fails to provide essential services like agriculture, healthcare, and education, then “what is the purpose of having a government?” he questioned.
Jagan announced his intention to embark on a padayatra across all Assembly constituencies to illuminate the coalition's failures and demonstrate the contrast with his governance.
