Amaravati, Oct 23 (NationPress) Andhra Pradesh is set to launch India's first dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) university, as announced by Nara Lokesh, the state's Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics.
Currently in Australia, the minister revealed plans to integrate AI into the high school curriculum, with the establishment of new AI and Robotics Labs in government schools.
During his visit, Lokesh engaged with prestigious universities, business leaders, and innovation specialists in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, aiming to bolster the state's global education alliances, investment opportunities, and advancements in sports infrastructure.
At the Education Roundtable organized by Queensland Trade and Investment, the minister highlighted Andhra Pradesh's groundbreaking educational reforms.
He emphasized the state's successful incorporation of AI into governance for enhancing public services in education, healthcare, and welfare. The meeting featured participation from prominent universities and government officials from Queensland's education sector.
Lokesh visited Griffith University's Gold Coast campus, where he met Vice President (Global) Marnie Watson. They discussed Griffith University’s notable achievements and its global reputation for social justice, sustainability, and innovation across its five campuses since its establishment in 1975.
During the discussions, Lokesh suggested creating a Griffith University India Centre in Andhra Pradesh to facilitate student exchanges, collaborative research, and academic cooperation. He encouraged the university to collaborate with the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) and key Andhra institutions like SRM–AP, Andhra University, and VIT–AP for dual-degree programs and skill certifications meeting global standards. He also invited Griffith University to join the upcoming Partnership Summit – 2025 and AP Global Education Forum in November.
In Brisbane, Lokesh participated in a high-level Business Roundtable organized by the Consulate General of India and the Australia-India Business Council (AIBC).
He addressed the attendees, outlining Andhra Pradesh’s pivotal role in India–Australia trade, particularly after the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA), which has seen bilateral trade surge to USD 24.1 billion.
Lokesh highlighted the remarkable transformation of Andhra Pradesh under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, with over Rs 10 lakh crore in new investments within the last 16 months, including significant commitments from Google and ArcelorMittal. He invited Australian investors to explore the state's favorable industry policies and attend the Partnership Summit – 2025 in Visakhapatnam.
The minister also met Professor Cal Zenger from James Cook University, discussing potential collaborations in aquaculture genetics. He sought assistance in developing disease-resistant, high-yield shrimp and fish breeds and training programs for AP's aquaculture farmers, alongside AI-driven monitoring systems to boost productivity and sustainability.
Lokesh met with senior representatives from Populous, a globally recognized sports architecture firm responsible for iconic venues like the London Olympic Stadium, Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, and New York's Yankee Stadium. He invited the firm to contribute designs and expertise to Andhra Pradesh's ambitious Sports Hub Vision, led by Chief Minister Naidu.
