New Delhi, Nov 19 (NationPress) A special court has ordered the remand of Anmol Bishnoi, who is the sibling and close associate of incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, to 11 days of NIA custody.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on November 29 at 2 p.m.
As per the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Anmol is considered a significant figure within the BKI–Bishnoi gangster syndicate, actively involved in the management of its operations.
The investigation will focus on his suspected Khalistani connections and his extensive activities within the criminal network.
NIA’s attorney, Rahul Tyagi, presented the matter to the court.
In contrast, the defense argued that the NIA already possesses sufficient evidence against the accused, thus negating the need for police custody.
They contended that the case lacks direct evidence and that the accused is willing to assist the investigation; therefore, the request for custody should be denied. However, the court dismissed their claims and remanded Bishnoi to NIA custody.
Earlier today, Anmol, who had been residing in the United States, was returned to India and detained upon his arrival. He had been evading capture since 2022 and is the 19th individual arrested in relation to the terror syndicate allegedly headed by Lawrence Bishnoi.
The NIA noted that Anmol was chargesheeted in March 2023 after investigations revealed that between 2020 and 2023, he had provided significant assistance to designated terrorist Goldy Brar and his sibling in executing various terrorist acts across India.
The agency claims Anmol utilized his base in the US to orchestrate the gang’s operations, coordinate with accomplices, offer shelter and logistics to shooters, and manage extortion schemes targeting individuals in India.
The NIA continues to investigate the extensive connections between terrorists, gangsters, and arms traffickers, including their infrastructure and funding sources.
Anmol Bishnoi faces multiple criminal charges, including conspiracy to murder former Maharashtra Minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique, who was shot in Mumbai in October of the previous year.
He is also under investigation for the shooting incident outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s home in Bandra in April last year. Additionally, his alleged involvement in the assassination of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, a highly publicized case linked to the Bishnoi-Brar syndicate, is being examined.
In November 2024, Bishnoi was apprehended in California, USA, for entering the country with illegal documentation.
This occurred shortly after India initiated the extradition process following a non-bailable warrant issued by a Maharashtra court and a Red Corner Notice from Interpol.
