Imphal, Nov 19 (NationPress) Union Minister for Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday reiterated the importance of the “One Sport, One State” philosophy, encouraging all Northeastern states to craft a detailed sports strategy that centers on their unique specializations.
The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, along with DoNER Minister Scindia, co-chaired the third and concluding virtual session of the High-Level Task Force (HLTF) aimed at promoting sports in the North-Eastern region (NER) on Wednesday.
Post-meeting, the DoNER Minister shared on his X account that he stressed the importance of the “One Sport, One State” approach, urging all states involved to focus on establishing a detailed sports strategy aligned with their selected disciplines.
“I underscored the necessity for high-quality coaching, talent identification, and technology-driven training for our athletes, with infrastructure supporting a roadmap aimed at results for the NER,” he stated.
Scindia further noted: “Together, we are creating a solid foundation for the Northeast to emerge as India’s center for high-performance sports excellence”.
A Raj Bhavan official in Imphal reported that the meeting assessed the progress of ongoing initiatives and deliberated on developing a cohesive framework to enhance talent pathways and high-performance systems.
The discussions also focused on essential elements for the development of the sports ecosystem, including scientific coaching techniques, competition structures, last-mile infrastructure, and the establishment of high-performance centers and academies, as stated by the official.
States were urged to fine-tune their priority disciplines and draft comprehensive proposals that reflect their strengths, existing frameworks, and future potential.
The meeting wrapped up with a mutual pledge to enhance the sports landscape in the Northeast through coordinated planning, data-driven strategies, and robust Centre-State collaboration.
Attending the meeting virtually were Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Nikhil Khadse; Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Hariranjan Rao; Sports Ministers from Meghalaya and Mizoram; Chief Secretary of Manipur; officials from the Ministry of DoNER; and senior representatives from other Northeastern states.
The DoNER ministry had established several High-Level Task Forces to pinpoint crucial interventions and devise actionable short-term, medium-term, and long-term strategies for the integrated advancement of the North East Economic Corridor.
The formation of the High-Level Task Forces followed the 72nd plenary session of the North-Eastern Council (NEC), which took place in November last year in Agartala, presided over by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
