Bhubaneswar, May 2 (NationPress) In an alarming turn of events, another female student from Nepal, identified as Prisha Shah, was discovered hanging in her hostel room at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, according to police reports.
The first-year B.Tech computer science student was reportedly from the Birgunj region of Nepal.
Authorities, including the Bhubaneswar Commissioner of Police, Additional Commissioner of Police, and other senior officials, swiftly arrived at the scene to commence an investigation into the suspicious circumstances surrounding the Nepali student's death.
The body has been sent to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, for a post-mortem examination, which is set to take place after her family arrives on Friday.
Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh stated, "During the evening attendance check around 7 p.m., it was noted that Prisha Shah, who was alone in her room, did not respond. Upon investigation by college officials, she was found hanging. We have initiated an inquiry into this matter."
He further mentioned that a scientific team is currently examining the deceased's room for any potential evidence.
Singh reassured that the students in the hostel are cooperating with the police and have faith in the investigative process.
The police have registered an unnatural death case as no complaints regarding foul play have been made at this time. Singh emphasized that should any evidence of involvement in the suspicious death emerge, appropriate actions will be taken.
“We are interviewing other female students in the hostel to determine whether Prisha had confided in them or displayed any concerning behavior. We have also contacted officials from the Nepal Embassy, who have informed her family. Her parents are expected to arrive in Bhubaneswar on Friday morning,” Singh added.
