Kolkata, May 21 (NationPress) The Kolkata Police alongside the Murshidabad district police have successfully confiscated significant amounts of illegal arms and ammunition through three distinct operations conducted within the city and district.
In total, four individuals have been apprehended during these raids and search efforts over a span of the last 18 hours.
The initial operation took place on A.J.C. Bose Road in Kolkata.
Saddam Hussein was taken into custody by law enforcement late on Tuesday night. Authorities recovered one 7 mm pistol, one magazine, and two rounds of ammunition from his possession.
In a second operation executed on Topsia Road in Eastern Kolkata, two suspects were detained early Wednesday morning with a homemade gun and one round of bullets. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Fyam and Mohammad Faiz.
"All three individuals are believed to be part of a suspected major network involved in sourcing arms and ammunition for sale to criminals within the city. Interrogations are currently ongoing, and they will be presented in court later today. We will request their police custody for further questioning," stated a senior police official.
In a third operation at Naoda in the Murshidabad district, police arrested one person early Wednesday, recovering seven 7 mm pistols, 13 magazines, and 10 rounds of ammunition. The arrested individual has been identified as Habul Sheikh, a resident of Baharampur in the same district.
According to Majid Iqbal Khan, the additional district police superintendent, the accused procured the illegal arms from Munger in Bihar and was attempting to sell them to local criminal elements.
The suspect is set to be presented in district court later today, where the public prosecutor will seek police custody for further questioning.
Over the past few months, multiple incidents of illegal arms seizures and associated arrests have been reported across various regions of West Bengal, including the state's capital, Kolkata.
