Kolkata, Oct 9 (NationPress) On Thursday, law enforcement took a decisive step by apprehending one individual linked to the assault on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator MLA Manoj Oraon.
The suspect, identified as Ashutosh Mondal, is reportedly affiliated with the Trinamool Congress.
This arrest stemmed from a complaint filed by the BJP at the Kumargram Police Station in the Alipurduar district.
Despite the arrest, Manoj Oraon expressed dissatisfaction, stating, “The police have only caught one of the attackers. The rest are still at large. The police lack the courage to apprehend the other suspects.”
On Tuesday, the BJP legislator from the Kumargram constituency faced an attack allegedly orchestrated by Trinamool Congress activists while he was in a village distributing relief supplies to flood victims.
This incident occurred a day after an assault on the vehicle of BJP Lok Sabha member Khagen Murmu and party MLA Shankar Ghosh in the Jalpaiguri district, while they were headed to the Nagrakata region with relief for flood-affected individuals.
During that attack, Khagen Murmu sustained serious injuries, also reportedly at the hands of Trinamool Congress supporters, while Ghosh was left with minor injuries.
After the incident, Oraon informed media representatives that he and his team were obstructed by a group of Trinamool Congress activists from delivering aid to those affected by the floods.
According to BJP leader Oraon, two of the vehicles used for their mission were damaged.
He reported that even his security personnel faced violence, with attempts made to seize their firearms.
In response to the attack, the BJP filed a complaint against five individuals.
However, the Alipurduar District President of the Trinamool Congress, Prakash Chik Baraik, claimed that the incident was merely a spontaneous demonstration by locals frustrated with Oraon’s prolonged absence from the area.
